Student Scientific Competition for the Dean’s Award of the Faculty of Science
The Student Scientific Competition – Dean’s Award has existed in its current form since 2007 and builds on the long-standing tradition of the so-called SVOČ (Student Scientific and Professional Activities). The goal is to motivate students to actively participate in science and research and to continue their work in the field of research and discovery. The event is open to all duly enrolled students in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc. The competition features six sections, each with three categories. Additionally, participants may register for the poster section. The competition is supported annually not only by the dean of the faculty but also by private companies that contribute to the awards.XXIII Edition – 2026

Students of the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc, who are enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral programme during the given academic year are eligible to enter the competition. Depending on the programme type, they must also enter the corresponding category (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral). A final thesis or other scientific work authored by the contestant may be submitted. The supervisor of the scientific thesis may be an employee of Palacký University Olomouc or of another institution. Theses for which the supervisor has approved a confidential status must be consulted in advance with the competition’s scientific committee. The student must submit and present the thesis in Czech, Slovak, or English. Further instructions can be found in the individual sections. A poster section is additionally announced as part of the competition. The evaluation of posters differs from that of the other sections. The rankings are determined by a vote of students actively participating in the competition and the committee members.
A single student may compete in up to two sections: the field section and the poster section.
Awards
In the competition, 1st through 3rd place will be awarded in each category of every section, and the section winner will also be selected in each section. A more detailed list of awards can be found under the individual sections. In addition, an overall winner of the competition will be announced, who will receive an extraordinary scholarship of 15,000 CZK. The awards are sponsored by the event’s partners and the Faculty of Science of Palacký University Olomouc.
